The Joy of Learning

We encourage children to develop their own theories so they can make sense of the world and to explore their theories with their friends. We listen to their ideas and take them seriously and we help facilitate their research. So when Leo wanted to build a swimming pool to see if he could make light shine into the water, we made certain he had bricks, torches and plastic sheets and all the time he needed, and his friends helped him too.

We draw our inspiration from the childhood centres of Reggio Emilia in Italy. These nurseries are world famous for providing children with the very best in childcare and education. We are committed to the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage - this is the national guidance for working with children from birth to five. So we give children of all ages the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge across as many areas of learning as possible.

Learning with friends and with adults

At Reflections we support children's natural curiosity by providing a wide range of experiences, and plenty of positive interaction with well-trained, professional staff.  Our Pre-school Room leader Shelley responded to Lottie's question raised over lunch one day: 'Where do chips come from?' This prompted a project with the whole group which involved investigating potatoes, making crisps and testing homemade crisp packets to see how fresh they kept their crisps.
