Nursery Projects

Reflections Nursery seeks to find a balance between child-initiated and adult-initiated, and child-led and adult-led experiences.  Below you will find some information about nursery projects which illustrate children's abilities in initiating and leading their own experiences within a planned framework.

Children as Photographers Project

Our Children

The intentions behind this project were to introduce children to digital cameras, to encourage their creativity and to give them access to a further 'language' to express themselves. The results were astounding and we exhibited their work over a two week period as part of the Artists & Makers Festival in Worthing in July 2008.

Reflections Light, Swimming Pools & Light Project

Our Children

The children in the pre-school room were conducting an investigation of light and water. Three teachers sought to extend some of the children's ideas, working with a small group to look at water and light more closely using David Hockney as a starting point.  The project title was suggested by one of the children 'light' appears twice in the title because we looked at two types of light: natural, refracted light on the surface of water and the artificial light you find under a swimming pool.

Pollock, Rothko and Escher Project

Our Children

Observing the work of artists and drawing on their styles is an excellent starting point for developing skills whilst still providing choices for children.  This project, inspired by the work of three artists, involved children aged from 3 months to 12 years and culminated in a two-week exhibition as part of the Artists & Makers Festival in Worthing in July 2007. During the exhibition, we raised over £2500 for charity through the sale of children's artworks.
