Paper Flowers

During a discussion in the Pre-school Room about where we see flowers, Gabrielle mentioned that she had flowers at home and that sometimes restaurants have flowers on the table.  Ela and Gabrielle thought it would be nice for their friends to enjoy flowers at mealtimes. One lunchtime they set a jar of paper flowers down on each of the tables and there was much conversation about the beautiful centrepieces.


There followed months of flower-making with children teaching each other different methods. Vases of paper flowers became a feature of every mealtime.


Noa (aged 4 years, 1 month) thought it would be a good idea to set a price for the flowers.


“This one only costs £158!” Noa


The adults met with a shop owner and soon the children were on their way to the flower shop to sell their wares and were given real flowers in return. Weeks of observing and painting flowers followed with children perfecting their skills.  


Children returned to the paper flowers and found that when they watered them they turned to paste.  A new exploration of papier-mâché began…
